WILLMAR — To build an intercultural mindset and community, Ridgewater College will host a virtual speaker series that will highlight German heritage and American racial history, as well as celebrate and honor the experiences of people of color, Indigenous people and immigrants of the United States. All are free of charge, but registration is required for Zoom links at ridgewater.edu/events/categories/dei .

German American Heritage Day: Oct. 6, 11 a.m. Jessica Gordon, the education and diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion coordinator from the German American Heritage Museum of Iowa, will explore The White Rose, a resistance group in Nazi Germany that was led by five students and one professor.

Lego Club: Oct. 5, 4 to 5 p.m., kindergarten through sixth grade, no registration is necessary. Test your creativity and skills the first Wednesday of the month.

Early Readers Book Club: Oct. 5, 4 p.m., grades K-2, intended for children who have graduated from storytime age. We will read a story, discuss, and do activities. October is a Dory Fantasmagory book.

Teen hangout: Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m., ages 12-18, no registration required. Enjoy video games, arts and crafts, board and card games, snacks and beverages.

Teen Gaming Club: Oct. 14, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., ages 12-18, no registration required. Play games on the Xbox One or board and card games. Some games are rated 13+. Refreshments provided.

Tween craft: Oct. 18, 6 p.m. ages 9-14 only. Turn a dollhouse into a haunted dollhouse with all supplies provided. Register online.

Adult game night: Oct. 18, 6 to 8 p.m. Invite your friends to play some of the library’s games or bring a favorite from home. Everyone 16 and over are welcome. No cost and no registration.

Homeschool hour: Oct. 19, 2 p.m. This month’s topic is “All About Spiders.” Learn about spiders, play games, and do a craft. For kids 12 and under.

Teen movie: Oct. 19, 5:30 p.m., ages 12-18, no registration required, popcorn and refreshments provided.

Adult Book Club: Oct. 20, noon, “Maverick, Movies & Murder” by Mary Seifert. Book discussion upstairs at the library. New members are always welcome.

Adult movie matinee: Oct. 21, 2 p.m., no cost or registration, refreshments provided.

Adulting 101: Oct. 25, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the conference room. Topic is introduction to resumes; teens and adults welcome. Register in advance on the website.

Pajama-rama storytime: Oct. 25, 6:30 p.m. Come in your pajamas, bring a blanket and listen to stories. Milk and cookies afterward before you head home to bed.

Frankentoys: Oct. 26, 5:30 p.m., ages 6-12. Take apart toys and rebuild something totally unique (and totally Franksenstein).

Teen Halloween party: Oct. 28, 3 to 5:30 p.m., ages 12-18 only. Watch a scary movie followed by a few rounds of Trivia Murder Party. No registration required.

Trick or Treat: Oct. 31. The library will be give out treats to kids who stop in.

Teen take-and-make: Oct. 3 opened for moon phase wall hanging, Oct. 17 opens for yarn scarecrow. For ages 12-18, limit one per person as supplies are limited. Sign up on the library website.

Adult make-and-take: Crafts are posted on the website as they are available. Oct. 3 opened for maple leaf mason jars, Oct. 17 opens for spooky tissue paper painting and Oct. 31 for custom suitcase tags. For ages 18 and over, limit one per person, supplies limited, sign up on the library website.

Teen lit loot: Sign up and you will receive a library book based on your interests and a bag of goodies to go with it. One per month and will need to re-register each month. October’s theme is horror.

Makerspace Equipment: Cricut, Dremel Stylo, button maker, jewelry stamping and sewing machine, equipment must be used in the library and consumable materials are not supplied. Makerspace users must agree to the Makerspace Policy and complete training on safety and equipment use. Make reservations on the library’s website under adult services.

Friday afternoon of dancing: Oct. 7, 1 to 4 p.m., music by Michael James; $7 dancers, $2 listeners.

Willmar Elks sheltered dance: Oct. 12, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Elks sponsor the dances for local and surrounding group home residents to enjoy a night of dancing and socializing.

Fam-BOO-lous Fun: Oct. 15, 3 pm. Bring the family to make homemade caramel apples and decorate with your favorite toppings. Then create a spooky craft just in time for Halloween. Cost is $8 for two apples and the craft.

Veterans coffee social: Oct. 17, 9:30 to 11 a.m., coffee social for all veterans, police, fire and emergency medical services members.

Little Art Gallery session: Oct. 17, 3 to 5 p.m., free. Create art to be on display in our community art galleries in November which will feature Thanksgiving, Veterans Day and Day of the Dead (Día de Los Muertos).

Community crafts: Oct. 20, 2:30 p.m., $8, all ages, advance registration required. Make stackable pumpkins, a fall decoration that can transform into a stacking game.

Community Book Club: Oct. 24, 3:30 p.m., free. Join for a discussion, new book picked each month.

Medicare Made Easy: Oct. 25, 1 p.m. Learn the options, how to register and how Medicare works. Free, no sales will be made at this workshop.

Youth in the Woodshop — robot man: Oct. 25 or Oct. 27, 4 to 6 p.m., grades 5 and up, $10. For children interested in working with his/her hands and building things, woodshop volunteers will go through basic safety and skills and help them create a robot man.

Community bingo: Oct. 25, 5 to 7 p.m., $3 per person, two cards at a time.

Court whist tournament: Oct. 27, 12:30 p.m., advance registration required, $2 entry fee.

Drive-Thru & Treat: Oct. 31, 3:30 to 6 p.m. We want to see your best costumes come through our drive-up event under the Willmar Community Center Canopy. All ages (& pets) welcome.

Robbins Island: Destination Playground; 18-hole disc golf course starts north of playground; North Business Highway 71, Willmar.

Grind Central Skate Park: Open during daylight hours, Swansson Fields in southwest Willmar.

Archery Park: Open during daylight hours, located on 19th Avenue Southeast across from Walmart. Seven shooting lanes ranging from 10 to 70 yards. For all ages but children under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
